Movie of puppies at 8 weeks...
Merrychase babies are born in our bedroom. Their whelping box is state-of-the-art designed with cleanliness and comfort in mind for both the puppies and the dam.
Puppies are checked and weighed each day to monitor growth and health. During the first week they are also given the widely accepted Bio-Sensor test, which is a gentle stimulation (tickling toes, holding gently in different positions) that increase their social skills and ability to deal with stress conditions throughout their lives.
While they are in the bedroom they are exposed to regular household noises e.g. TV, vacuum cleaner, etc. This assures they will not be concerned with normal noises.
Sometime during the 4th and 5th weeks they are moved to a larger area in our warm kitchen where they begin to learn correct potty procedures and play with larger toys, one or two Aunt Cavaliers, neighborhood children, our grandchildren and visitors who have come just to see them. They love to sleep in an open crate all piled up on each other for comfort then race outside to the grass when the weather is nice.
When they are 6 - 7 weeks old they learn to use the floppy door that leads to a small area just for them. It is a great housebreaking method and all our Cavaliers use it every day.
We do not place puppies until they are 10 weeks old. We have found that those extra weeks with mom and siblings and their first home offer much needed learning, skills and socialization. The first fear period happens during ages 7-9 weeks so and we prefer that they be at home during this time to prevent any unnecessary fears from imprinting.
We do not accept deposits for puppies nor do we keep a waiting list. We want you to be free to change your mind for any reason and we prefer to place the right puppy in the right home. We do keep an interested party list that receives updates on birthings, puppy events, photos and sometimes even puppy movies. We evaluate your home as to lifestyle and needs by way of our questionnaire, phone calls and frequent visits, so that we can choose the perfect puppy for you.
New puppy owners leave with all required vaccines and a health record from our veterinarian, a 7-generation pedigree and photos of the sire and dam, completed registration in the CKCSC, USA and AKC, books on care, instructions on feeding and care from Merrychase, a week’s supply of food and good food lists, his favorite toys and a portion of his litter’s blankie to help him ease through his first few nights without his siblings, and our Merrychase contract. We are also always available for support and care information. We do not believe in shipping dogs, so you will need to come in person to pick up your puppy. Our Merrychase guarantee says if, for any reason, you can no longer care for the puppy you need only bring him home to Merrychase. |
